Welcome to EPEL 7000 for Summer, 2010. Below is some basic information about this course. This course will be a mixture of online work and face-to-face class meetings. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to introduce the student to educational administration and leadership through the study of educational organizations, leadership theory, decision-making and administrative processes.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

The student will:

1. Evidence an understanding of the organization of American and Georgia schools.
2. Develop a working knowledge of the movement toward educational reform.
3. Articulate a personal vision for their school and have begun to develop an educational platform.
4. Gain insights into a school’s culture and school member’s personal hopes and dreams.
5. Influence and strengthen school culture by modeling core values, communicating values and aligning reward systems with values.
6. Facilitate direction-setting processes within schools that require a high degree of member participation (e.g., assessing current school culture and values, building a school vision, developing organizational goals and strategies).
7. Facilitate the development of school improvement efforts.
8. Identify emerging issues and trends that potentially affect the school community.
9. Participate in participatory decision-making.
